Hancock Earns First Postseason Berth Since 2011, Receives No.13 Seed and Draws No.4 Palomar
The Allan Hancock College baseball team has earned a spot in the Regional Playoffs for the first time since 2011. The Bulldogs received the 13th seed in the Southern California Regional Playoffs on Sunday.
Hancock travels to No. 4 Palomar for a best of three-game series that opens Friday, May 2, with the second and third game, if needed, slated for Saturday, May 3.
Hancock completed the regular season 22-13-1 and tied for third place in the Western State Conference standings at 10-10. Palomar went 27-9, including a 22-2 run through conference and a. Pacific Coast Conference title. The program enters the postseason on a 15-game winning streak.
The two teams played three common opponents in Cypress, Imperial Valley and Fullerton. Hancock went 4-1 against those teams, while Palomar was 7-0.
Orange Coast College (27-9) received the SoCal Region's top seed. WSC champion Oxnard (27-9) will be the No.2 seed. Santa Barbara (23-13) received the sixth seed and opens at home against No.11 San Bernardino Valley (26-10). L.A. Pierce, which tied for third in the WSC with Hancock, scored the No.12 seed and plays at No.5 Cerritos (24-12). To view the complete bracket click here.
Four WSC-North Division teams will play in the postseason. For the first time in 19 years, Hancock's rival, Cuesta College did not earn a playoff berth.
Hancock will look to advance past the first round and into the Super Regionals for the first time since 2010.
