No. 13 Bulldog Baseball Heads to College of the Canyons Tournament
The Hancock baseball team travels to Valencia to play three games at a tournament hosted by College of the Canyons. The Bulldogs, who are ranked No. 13 in the Southern California Regional Preseason Coaches Poll, went 1-2 during their opening weekend at a tournament hosted by Bakersfield College.
The Bulldogs won their season opener 4-3 over Porterville. Hunter Christensen, Riley Joyce and Angel Guillen had two hits apiece. Zach Lampeira added a two-run single. Lucas Martin threw four shutout innings for the Bulldogs. Hancock dropped a 5-0 decision to fourth ranked College of the Sequoias, despite another two-hit effort form Christiansen and six shutout innings from starter Elijah Ortiz. The Bulldogs ended the weekend with a 3-1 loss to the host Renegades. Ellis Gerussi-Turner led the Bulldogs with two hits and one RBI. Matt Shackley, who earned the save in the opener, threw 3 2/3 shutout innings in relief of Henry Fienga. Overall, Christensen led the Bulldogs with four hits in 11 at-bats, while Gerussi-Turner is three for 10.
Canyons is off to a 2-1 start and ranked 11th in the SoCal Regional rankings. San Diego Mesa is 1-1, while Rio Hondo, the ninth ranked team in the region, has won two of its first three games.
