Hancock Baseball Wins 4-2 at West Hills in Non-Conference Game

Lucas Martin threw five shutout innings of relief and the Bulldogs broke a 2-2 tie during a two-run eight inning as the Allan Hancock College baseball team won a non-conference game at West Hills-Coalinga 4-2 on Friday. Hancock snapped a four-game losing skid to improve to 6-11 overall. West Hills lost its eighth straight and fell to 3-13.

The game-winning rally started with back-to-back singles from Zach Lampreia and Tim Mahoney. Riley Joyce hit into a fielder's choice to force Lampreia at third. Justin Daraban to load the bases.  Angel Guillen drove a fly ball to right field to allow Mahoney to tag up and score the game-winning run.  Riley later scored on a passed ball with Colby Barrick at the plate to give Hancock a two-run advantage.

Sophomore Henry Fienga started on the mound for Hancock. He allowed two runs in the fourth inning on three hits and left the game with the score tied 2-2. The Cabrillo High School graduate struck out two, walked two and allowed those three hits and two runs over four innings.

Martin, a sophomore left-hander, went the rest of the way. The Lompoc High School graduate allowed just two hits and struck out three. He did not walk a batter. Martin earned his first win of the season to improve to 1-2.

The Bulldogs were the first ones on the scoreboard. Hunter Christensen singled with two outs and nobody on in the first inning. He moved to second on a wild pitch. Ellis Gerussi-Turner drew a walk to continue the rally. Lampreia followed with a single to drive in Christensen. Gerussi-Turner was thrown out at third base on the play to end the rally.  The Bulldogs scored again in the second when Mahoney walked moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Joyce. Isaiah Ramos walked and Mahoney moved to third on the pitch that went for a passed ball. Guillen delivered a fly ball to center field to drive in Mahoney to make it 2-0 Hancock. 

West Hills scored twice in the fourth to tie the game until the Bulldogs scored in the eighth.

The Bulldogs outhit West Hills seven to five. Gerussi-Turner and Mahoney led the Bulldogs with two hits apiece. Joyce, Lampreia and Christensen each had one basehit. Guillen had two RBI. 

Hancock returns to action on Tuesday, March 10, at 2:30 p.m. in a conference game at Moorpark.
