Bischoff Shines, Bulldogs Beat Cuesta 5-2

(San Luis Obispo, CA) Freshman pitcher Skylar Bischoff pitched into the eighth inning and earned the win during his first start of the season during the Allan Hancock College baseball team's 5-2 win at Cuesta College on Tuesday afternoon. The Bulldogs, winners of three straight, improved to 6-9 in Western State Conference play and 9-15 overall. Cuesta fell to 8-5 in conference and 11-12 for the season.

Bischoff, a Righetti High School graduate, went 7 2/3 innings. He scattered six hits and two runs. Bischoff allowed one walk and struck out five to earn his first victory of the season. Matt Shackley recorded the final four outs of the game to secure his second save of the season. The sophomore allowed one hit and issued one walk.

The Bulldogs outhit Cuesta eight to six led by two from center fielder Colton Studebaker and three from third baseman Zach Lampreia.

Hancock got on the board first in the top of the first inning when Colby Barrick led off the game and was hit by a pitch. He moved to second on a single from Studebaker and to third on a fly ball to right field by Ellis Gerussi-Turner. Barrick, a Santa Ynez High School graduate, scored on a two-out single by Lampreia.

Cuesta tied it with a run in the third, a solo home run by Blake Chandler. Hancock regained the lead for good in the fifth with three runs thanks to a two-out error by the Cuesta shortstop that allowed the go-ahead run to score and kept the inning alive. Lampreia and Christensen followed with RBI-singles to give Hancock a 4-1 lead. The Bulldogs added another run in the sixth on a RBI-double from Barrick that scored Angel Guillen, who was hit by a pitch to lead off the frame.

Lampreia finished with two RBI.

The Cougars added a run in the eighth.

Hancock and Cuesta battle for the final time during the regular season on Thursday, March 26, at 3 p.m. on the Bulldogs' home field.
