Ramos and Miranda Combine on 1-0 Shutout against Ventura, Peinado Drives in Only Run of Game

Isaiah Ramos and Chance Miranda combined to throw a five-hit shutout to lead the Allan Hancock College baseball team to a 1-0 win over Ventura on Tuesday. The Bulldogs split the Western State Conference series with the Pirates to even its conference record at 1-1 and 5-5 overall. Hancock snapped Ventura's four-game winning streak and dropped the Pirates to 1-1 in conference and 7-4 overall.

The Bulldogs scored the only run of the game in the third inning. Sophomore right fielder Colby Barrick hit a one-out double. The Santa Ynez High School graduate stole third base and scored on a double off the bat of freshman third baseman Ryan Peinado.  

The Bulldogs finished with three hits overall, two of which led to the only run of the game. Second baseman Justin Daraban accounted for the other base hit. Barrick stole two bases in the game. 

Ramos earned his first win of the season with six and one-third innings of work. He scattered five hits and issued five walks. The Righetti High School graduate struck out four. He left the game with one out and the bases loaded, but Miranda induced two groundballs to escape the jam. Miranda earned the save with one and two-third innings of shutout relief. The left-handed pitcher struck out two to earn his second save of the season.

The Bulldogs return to action on Thursday, Feb. 25 at 2 p.m. when Central Coast rival Cuesta College visits Hancock.
