Baseball Completes Sweep of L.A. Pierce 5-1 behind King and Tonascia

Colby Barrick, Jacob Tonascia and Tim Mahoney each had run-scoring extra-base hits, and Kyle King threw seven strong innings during the Allan Hancock College baseball team's 5-1 win over L.A. Pierce College on Thursday afternoon. The Bulldogs completed the away-and-home sweep of the Brahmas to even their record to 3-3 in Western State Conference play and 7-7 overall. The Brahmas dropped to2-4 in conference and 5-10 overall.

The Bulldogs struck first in the bottom of the first. Tonascia doubled to drive in Barrick, who led off the game with a single, and Colton Studebaker, who reached on an error. Hancock added to its lead in the second with Zach Lampreia doubled and Barrick sent one to the gap for a RBI-triple to make it 3-0 Bulldogs.

Mahoney made it a 4-0 game when he doubled in the third to drive home Kyle von Tillow. Hancock padded its lead with a run in the fourth when Tonascia delivered a two-out single to drive home Lampreia.

The Brahmas did not get to King, a sophomore left-handed pitcher, until the seventh when they score their only run of the game.

King earned his first win of the season after he scattered three hits and one run over seven innings. He walked four and struck out five. Chance Miranda threw a scoreless eighth inning of relief when he walked two and striking out a pair. Skylar Bischoff threw a scoreless ninth to preserve the win.

Hancock finished with nine hits to the Brahmas three.

Barrick, Tonascia and Lampreia had two hits apiece. Lampreia, Hancock's shortstop, also scored twice.

Hancock returns to action on Saturday at 1 p.m. when the Bulldogs host Oxnard in a conference game. Oxnard is off to a 2-2 start in league and 5-8 overall.
