Hancock Baseball Falls 12-3 at Cuesta

Behind a 17-hit attack, first place Cuesta College defeated the Allan Hancock College baseball team 12-3 on Tuesday afternoon in a Western State Conference game. The Bulldogs dropped to 7-8 in conference and 15-12 overall. Cuesta improved to 9-4 in WSC action and 16-9 on the season.

Hancock went right to work in the top of the first inning. Colby Barrick led off the game with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt laid down by Colton Studebaker. Barrick came around to score when Cuesta third baseman Josh Medina made an error on ball off the bat of Jacob Tonascia.

Hancock's 1-0 lead did not last long. Cuesta scored three in the first, two in the second, two in the third and another run in the fourth to build an 8-1 lead. The Bulldogs scored twice in the seventh when Ryan Peinado and Wyatt Cole scored when Cuesta shortstop Garrett Giovanelli misplayed a ball off the bat of Studebaker.

Hancock finished with six hits in the game. Barrick, Hunter Christensen, Carver Tippitt, Kyle von Tillow, Justin Daraban and Peinado had one hit apiece. Peinado and von Tillow each had one double.

Five Cougars had multiple hits, led by Tanner Bos and Hunter Reade, who had three each. 

Kyle King took the loss for Hancock to fall to 3-4. The left-handed sophomore allowed seven runs and nine hits in three innings. He walked two and struck out five. Skylar Bischoff was charged with five runs in three and one-third innings of relief. He allowed seven hits and struck out two. Diego Rodriguez threw one and two-third innings of shutout relief.

The Bulldogs will look to split the series with Cuesta on Thursday, April 7. Hancock will host the Cougars at 2:30 p.m.
