Tonascia's Grand Slam and Five RBI Power Bulldogs to 14-5 Win at LA Pierce

Jacob Tonascia hit a grand slam and drove in a career-high five runs, and Zach Lampreia launched his first career home run as the Allan Hancock College baseball team blew out L.A. Pierce on the road 14-5 Friday afternoon. The Bulldogs scored a season-high 14 runs and finished with 15 hits. Six players had two hits apiece in the victory. The Bulldogs improved to 8-9 in Western State Conference play and 16-13 overall. The Brahmas fell to 3-13 in conference and 7-21 overall. 

Hancock took control with four runs in the first and four more in the second. Kyle von Tillow led off the game with a double and scored on a RBI-single off the bat of fellow Santa Ynez High School graduate Colby Barrick. The sophomore right fielder stole second and third base and later scored on a two-out single from Tim Mahoney. Hunter Christensen followed with a shot to the gap and legged out a RBI-triple and came all the way around to score on a bad throw by the Pierce outfielder. Hancock rallied in the second when Chris Taitague walked, Lampreia was hit by a pitch and Barrick walked to load the bases. Tonascia followed with a blast over the wall for his third home run of the season and Hancock's first grand slam of the season to give the Bulldogs an 8-0 lead.

Pierce scored one run in the bottom half off Hancock starter Isaiah Ramos. The Bulldogs added two more in the second on a two-run home run from Lampreia to make it 10-1. Hancock added a run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly from Taitague, and another in the sixth on Mahoney's second RBI-single on the day to build a 12-3 lead. The Bulldogs scored two more in the eighth on a run-scoring single from Tonascia and a RBI-ground out from Christensen.

Tonascia finished two for five with 5 RBI, a double and a home run. von Tillow had two hits, one walk, a double and scored two times. Lampreia went two for five with three runs scored, a home run, double and 2 RBI. Barrick finished two for three with two walks, three stolen bases, an RBI and scored three times. Mahoney went two for four with 2 RBI and two runs scored. Christensen had two hits, 2 RBI and scored once. Colton Studebaker added a double, Daraban had one single and Peinado had a base hit.

Ramos improved to 6-0 with six solid innings. The Righetti High School graduate scattered six hits, three runs, two of which were earned, three walks and struck out two. Matt Reynolds allowed two unearned runs in the seventh. The redshirt freshman allowed two hits and struck out one. Jason Terrones finished the game with two shutout innings with two strikeouts.

The Bulldogs will host the Brahmas on Tuesday, April 12, at 2:30 p.m.
