Ramos Throws Complete Game, Hancock Rallies in Late Innings to Top Oxnard 7-2

(Oxnard, CA) Isaiah Ramos threw his first career complete game, and the Allan Hancock College baseball team's offense came to life late during a 7-2 come-from-behind win at Oxnard on Saturday afternoon. Hancock improved to 9-11 in Western State Conference play and 17-15 overall. The Condors fell to 8-10 in league and 13-17 on the season. The two clubs split their four regular-season games.

Ramos, a Righetti High School graduate, improved to 7-0 on the season. The sophomore scattered seven hits and issued one walk. He struck out five and allowed two runs, only one of them was earned.

The Condors scored two runs in the seventh to break a scoreless game. The Bulldogs rallied for three runs in the seventh thanks to four walks, two wild pitches and a hit batsman. With two outs and Ryan Peinado on second after a walk and a stolen base, Colton Studebaker singled to score Peinado and cut the deficit in half. Colby Barrick followed and drew a walk. Oxnard starting pitcher joseph Merrill uncorked two wild pitches, the second allowed Studebaker to score from third to tie the game 2-2, and moved Barrick over to third base. Jacob Tonascia and Tim Mahoney both drew walks to load the bases. Oxnard brought in relief pitcher Antonio Gaxiole to relieve Merrill. Gaxiole walked Hunter Christensen to force in Barrick and give Hancock a 3-2 lead.

The Bulldogs extended their lead with a four-run ninth. Studebaker singled and Barrick doubled. With two runners in scoring position, Tonascia delivered a RBI-single to drive home Studebaker to give Hancock a 4-2 edge. Wyatt Standley later hit a two-run single and scored on a RBI-grounder by Zach Lampreia to cap the four-run outburst.

Studebaker and Tonascia had two hits apiece to lead Hancock's eight-hit attack.

The Bulldogs will enjoy a break from competition and return to action next Saturday, April 23, at 1 p.m. at home against Moorpark.
