Baseball's Joey Freitas Committed to Eastern Oregon

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - Allan Hancock College third baseman, Joey Freitas, has committed to continuing his academic and athletic career at Eastern Oregon University next season.

"I choose Eastern Oregon because of the academics. They offer a degree in Fire Services Administration and I felt like choosing this school was going to help set up a successful future for myself in the fire service," shared Freitas. "I also really enjoy the general location of the school. Eastern Oregon offers some of the best trout fishing and hunting on the west coast!"

Freitas wrapped up his second season with the Bulldogs last week. The Mariposa County High School alum finished the season with a .292 batting average and totaled 28 RBIs on 49 hits after leading the team with 168 at-bats. He also tallied seven stolen bases on the season and finished his sophomore campaign with a .895 fielding percentage. Last season, Freitas was recognized as a Second Team All-Conference selection in the Western State Conference for his play throughout the shortened season.

"My time at Allan Hancock helped prepare me for the next level by teaching me how to push myself," added Freitas. "Coach Stevens made me realize how lucky I am to be able to play college baseball. He wanted us to capitalize on that every day. He taught us the importance of working hard, both on the field, and in the classroom so that we can make something out of ourselves when we leave here."

Eastern Oregon, located in La Grande, is a member of the NAIA and competes in the Cascade Collegiate Conference.
