The ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Teams are selected in nine divisions, with all honorees receiving a Rawlings Gold Glove similar to those awarded to Major League players. This award was founded in 2007. Steels becomes just the fourth athlete on record to receive the honor for the AHC baseball program. Other former Bulldogs to make the list include Jacob Ruley (2021 | OF), Ryan Peinado (2017 | 3B), and Chris Mallory (2010 | 2B).

The honor adds to an already impressive resume for the Santa Maria native, which also includes an ABCA/Rawlings Second Team All-Region selection, a First Team All-Conference designation, and two new school records. He led the way for the program at the plate with an incredible .416 batting average while also boasting a .505 on-base percentage. The Ernest Righetti High School alum was also tops for the program with 45, 22 RBIs, and a .633 slugging percentage during his final season with the Bulldogs. Steels finished the regular season tied for fifth in the state after tallying 69 hits, along with state-level rankings in both triples (3rd| 9) and stolen bases (5th | 27) after postseason action. The centerfielder also picked up a WSC Gold Glove nod after a spotless outfield performance on 90 total chances last season.

Steels is set to continue his academic and athletic career as an NCAA Division I student-athlete next season at Cal Poly (SLO).
