Baseball's Matthew Gonzales Commits to UCCS

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - Allan Hancock College pitcher, Matthew Gonzales, has committed to continuing his academic and athletic career at the University of Colorado (Colorado Springs) next season.

"I chose UCCS because I wanted a great opportunity to learn from great coaches and Coach Hajek is a former major league player," Gonzales shared. "I also wanted an opportunity to be able to pitch in good competition and the RMAC is a very competitive conference. I had never been to Colorado before but when I went on my visit the coaches made me feel welcome and I knew it was the place to be."

Gonzales recently completed his second countable, third overall, season with the Bulldogs. The Lompoc native secured five wins on the bump while registering a 4.53 ERA and 57 strikeouts after 57.2 innings of work. Gonzales was recognized as an All-Conference Honorable Mention selection at the conclusion of the season. Last season, he posted three wins and one wave with a  1.45 ERA while recording the program's sixth no-hitter against Cuesta in April 2020. After the 2021 season, the Cabrillo High School alum was tabbed as the WSC Pitcher of the Year and a CCCBCA All-State selection.

"I just want to thank all of the coaches who have helped me throughout the years, especially the coaching staff here at Allan Hancock. This program is very structured, like with weights and conditioning, which definitely helped prepare me for success at the next level," Gonzales added. "It made me work like I've never worked before. During my time here, I learned that if you put in the work great things will happen for you."

UCCS is a Division II member of the NCAA and competes in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
