Baseball Sweeps Second WSC Series in Matchup with Moorpark

MOORPARK, Calif. - The Allan Hancock College baseball team swept the three-game series against Moorpark College last week in the second week of Western State Conference (North) play. The Bulldogs move to 12-4 on the season after the weekend of action while the Raiders fall to 4-13 overall.

Stephen Espinoza led the way with a 7-for-15 (.467) showing at the plate through three games. He and Tommy Kendlinger were tops of the team with four RBIs apiece. Blake Edgmon cycled through the series with two singles, one double, one triple, and one homer en route to a .313 batting average. Ricky Smith and Espinoza were also a perfect 2-for-2 on stolen base attempts while Elijah Bobo and Gavin Long each swiped one. 

Next up is a three-game showing against Cuesta College. The Bulldogs will host on March 5th (2 PM) and March 9th (1 PM) with a road trip in between on March 7th. 


GAME ONE: AHC 8, MC 2 | BOX SCORE

Both programs got on the board in the first inning of the series opener after a shot over the fence by Kendlinger and an RBI single for the Raiders. Hancock rattled off five runs in the second, highlighted by a two-run double from Edgmon and Espinoza's RBI single up the middle. Niko Pecskovszky drove in one run in the seventh before Moorpark plated one in the eighth, both of which were unearned, before another single from Espinoza brought home the final run of the contest in the ninth. 

Nick Brown picked up his third win of the season on the mound after five innings of work. He surrendered just one earned run after scattering seven hits. Estevan Fonseca earned the save after closing out the final four frames, which saw three strikeouts and one hit. 

GAME TWO: AHC 9, MC 4 | BOX SCORE

Hancock struck first in game two with a four-run showing in the third after an uncharacteristic start to the contest. Edgmon led the way with a shot over the left field wall before Julien Sepulveda and Bridger Coleman drove in one run apiece. Espinoza also scored in the frame after capitalizing on a wild pitch. 

Both sides scored in the fifth when Moorpark used a double to send one home before Pesckovszky's homer in the bottom of the inning. The Raiders threatened used a two-run RBI in the sixth and a home run in the seventh to threaten a comeback, but Kendlinger put the game out of reach with a shot out of the park that scored three. 

Jaiden Turner collected his third win of the season after 5.1 innings of action, where he struck out three and allowed as many earned runs while scattering seven hits. Cooper Bagby entered for the final two frames and secured his fourth save of the season.  

GAME THREE: AHC 13, MC 3 | BOX SCORE

The Bulldogs won the final game handily after accumulating 13 runs on 21 hits to end the series. Ricky Smith and Long headlined the day with 4-for-5 showings at the plate and two RBIs apiece. Jesse Conrad also had a day with a 3-for-4 finish, which included a pair of RBIs.

Liam Taft secured his first win on the bump after relieving Mason Robertson, who went 4.2 innings en route to the non-decision.
