Bio

Newby starts his fifth season as an assistant coach for the Hancock baseball program. He is a graduate of Hancock and played on the 1972 state champion baseball team. Newby has nearly 40 years of coaching experience that include stops at St. Joseph and Santa Maria High Schools, as well as various youth organizations. He also served as an assistant coach for the Santa Maria Valley Packers summer collegiate team.

Newby played for the Santa Maria Indians from 1967 to 1969. At just 15 years old, he was one of the youngest to ever play for the club in its century of existence.

He and his wife Stacy have two children, Michelle and Brett, and two grandchildren, Cody and Tiahna.
