AHC Football Game Will Honor Our Military on Oct. 23

            Allan Hancock College’s home football game Oct. 23 will feature a patriotic salute to the U.S. Armed Forces as the Hancock Bulldogs face College of the Canyons’ Cougars in a gridiron showdown. Pre-game festivities will begin at Righetti High School’s Warrior Stadium at 4 p.m., followed by kick off at 6 p.m.
            It will be the eighth year in a row for Allan Hancock College and its community partners to feature a special salute to the military at one of its home football games.
            The first 200 military members, veterans and their families to pick up advance tickets will be admitted at no charge to the game, and served a free, tailgate-style, tri-tip meal at the pre-game festivities. A special halftime presentation is also planned to honor local active duty military and veterans. The Santa Maria Valley Chamber of Commerce, Coast Hills Federal Credit Union and Big Daddy’s Oak Pit BBQ have joined with Allan Hancock College to sponsor the special event.
            “This is the community’s way of saying thank you to all of our military personnel for the defense of our nation,” said Bob Hatch, president and chief executive officer of the Santa Maria Valley Chamber of Commerce and Visitor and Convention Bureau. Financial support from the chamber and the other sponsors will help make the event possible.
            “Our military—whether past or present—sacrifices for all of us. We want to let them know how much we appreciate their efforts in maintaining our nation’s peace and strength,” added Kim Ensing, Allan Hancock College’s associate dean, health/physical education/athletics.
            All active duty military members, veterans, and their families must hold a special ticket entitling them to the evening’s events, including free game admission and the pre-game barbecue. The tickets are free of charge and may be obtained at the Santa Maria Valley Chamber of Commerce, 614 South Broadway, and the Allan Hancock College Foundation office, 936 South College Drive. Personnel on Vandenberg AFB should contact the 30th Space Wing Public Affairs office at (805) 606-3595 to obtain tickets.
