Football Tied for Top in Conference Heading Into Ventura Contest

The 2011 football season is heating up for the Allan Hancock College Bulldogs, who are currently tied for a first place ranking in the Southern California Football Association National Division Northern Conference.

“We’re in playoff mode right now,” said head coach Kris Dutra. “In order for us to make the playoffs we need to win the rest of our games.”

The Bulldogs are 2-0 in conference and 6-1 overall with three conference games left in the regular season. One of the team’s strengths this season has been the players’ ability to fill in where needed and perform well at multiple positions, Dutra said.

“This is a real team,” he said. “Everyone is doing their part.”

This is Hancock’s second season in the tough National Division Northern Conference that includes three teams currently ranked in the top ten in the Southern Conference in the California Community College Regional State Football Poll, including Allan Hancock College at number five.
The Bulldogs take on Ventura College at home on Saturday, Oct. 29. The Pirates are currently ranked 11th and are 1-1 in conference play and 4-3 overall.  This will be the Bulldog’s first home game in three weeks, after a bye followed by two wins on the road against Bakersfield College and College of the Canyons. Ventura is coming off of a 13-0 win over Bakersfield.

The game starts at 6 p.m. at Righetti High School stadium. A live audio broadcast will be available at www.athletics.hancockcollege.edu  starting at 5:45 p.m. For more information call 922-6966 ext. 3227.
