Bulldogs Host LA Harbor at Western State Bowl Nov. 19

The Allan Hancock College football team will host Los Angeles Harbor College in the Western State Bowl on Saturday, November 19, at 4 p.m. This will be the first time the Bulldogs have hosted a bowl game in more than 15 years.

“It’s a great honor to bring this bowl game to Santa Maria, and it’s a testament to how competitive our football program is,” said Kim Ensing associate dean/athletic director.

The Bulldogs finished the regular season 2-3 in the National Division Northern Conference and 6-4 overall after an eventful season that included a win over long-time rivals Bakersfield College and a heartbreaking 28-29 loss to Ventura College.

Hancock faced the conference champions, Cerritos College, in the last game of the regular season and put up a fight, finishing with a final score of 27-35. Hancock finished the season ranked eighth in the Southern Conference in the California Community College Regional State Football Poll.

“We have some true football players on this team and they just don’t know how to quit,” said head coach Kris Dutra.
Los Angeles Harbor finished second in the Central Division West Conference with a 3-2 conference and 7-3 overall record. The Seahawks finished their season ranked 11th in the Southern Conference.

“They have a lot of big strong guys, just like teams we’ve played before,” Dutra said. “It’s going to be a good match up and a great game.”

The Western State Bowl starts at 4 p.m. at the Righetti High School Stadium. Tickets prices are \$8 for general admission and \$5 for Allan Hancock College students and staff, senior citizens and children under the age of 12. No passes are accepted for post-season competition.  A live audio broadcast of the game will be available at www.athletics.hancockcollege.edu starting at 3:45 p.m. For more information call 922-6966 ext. 3227.
