Williams, Davis, Worrell and Barganier Set Career High During Hancock's 62-27 Rout At Pasadena

Malik Williams returned from an injury to rush for a career-high 165 yards and three touchdowns, while Bakari Davis ran for a personal-best 116 yards and two scores to lead the Allan Hancock College football team to a 62-27 win at Pasadena on Saturday. Hancock snapped a three-game losing streak by outscoring the Lancers 52-6 from the middle of the second quarter on to improve to 2-2 in conference and 4-4 overall. Pasadena fell to 0-5 in league and 2-7 for the season.

The Bulldogs rushed for a season-high 488 yards on 80 carries led by their trio of tailbacks who set career highs. Sophomore Jericho Worrell raced for 98 yards on 15 carries and quarterback Curry Parham had 61 yards on the ground on three carries, including a 23-yard touchdown. The sophomore completed three of six passes for 152 yards and two touchdowns. He connected with Chris Barganier for a 79-yard touchdown and a 56-yard scoring pass. Barganier, a freshman wide receiver, compiled a career-high 152 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

The Bulldogs finished with 655 yards of total offense, the highest total since the Bulldogs racked up 683 yards against Glendale on November 1, 2008.

Pasadena charged out of the gates to score on the opening drive of the game, a 35-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Jett Even to DaiCorri Briscoe to take a 7-0 lead. Hancock responded with a 13-play, 83-yard drive that ended with an eight-yard touchdown run by Williams to tie it at 7-7 with 7:22 to play in the opening quarter. Ricky Blair caught a 10-yard touchdown pass from Even to give Pasadena a 14-7 lead after the first quarter. Hancock cut into the deficit with a 35-yard field goal from Jose Morales to make it a 14-10 game with 14:22 to play in the first half. The Lancers needed only four plays to find the end zone, as Blair caught his second touchdown, a 37-yard strike from Even, to give Pasadena a 21-10 lead with 12:39 to play in the half. From that point on, a 42:39 stretch, Hancock outscored the Lancers 52-6.

Parham found Barganier for a dynamic 79-yard touchdown, the longest pass of Parham's Bulldog career and the longest by a Hancock quarterback since 2011 to make it 21-17.

Hancock took the lead for good on its next drive as Davis ran it in from 26 yards out to give the Bulldogs a 24-21 lead with 7:23 to play in the half. Hancock's defense forced a three-and-out, and sophomore Rafael Arellano blocked the punt and Hancock recovered at the Pasadena 28. It took only one play, a 28-yard run by Williams, to give Hancock a 31-21 lead into intermission.

The Bulldogs scored on their opening possession of the second half as Davis scored on a four-yard run to cap a nine-play, 61-yard drive to make it 38-21 Hancock. After a Pasadena punt, Parham ran it in from 23-yards out to finish a drive aided by a 38-yard run by Justin Banks. The freshman finished with 50 yards on just four carries.

The Hancock defense forced another Pasadena punt, which resulted in a 55-yard touchdown strike from Parham to Barganier to make it 52-21. It was the second scoring connection of the game and third of the season between the two St. Joseph High School graduates.

Pasadena ended a 42-0 by Hancock by scoring on a 38-yard pass from Even to Blair to make it 52-26 after a two-point conversion failed. Hancock added a 29-yard field goal by Morales and a 28-yard touchdown run from Williams in the fourth quarter to complete the 62-26 road victory. 

Defensively, Greg Artis-Payne led the Bulldogs with 10 tackles, one pass breakup and one quarterback hurry. Davis had six tackles. Freshman defensive end Dondaycee Millbrook enjoyed his finest collegiate game that ended with five tackles, and 4.5 sacks. Linebacker Josh Hawes had 1.5 sacks, freshman Davon Perry had one sack, while sophomores Kevon Perry and Isaiah Hill each had half a sack.

Hancock dominated the overall statistics and held the edge in first downs (27 to 13), third down efficiency (6 of 11, 55 percent; 3 of 12, 25 percent), rushing yards (488 to -13), total yards (655 to 270), sacks (8 to 1), and time of possession (38:30 to 21:30).

Even finished with 283 passing yards and four touchdowns. The Pasadena quarterback completed 18 of his 31 passes. Blair caught seven passes for 137 yards and three touchdowns.

There were no turnovers in the game.

Hancock returns home next Saturday, Nov. 7, against Ventura for its final home game of the regular season. Kickoff at Hancock Football Field is set for 1 p.m. The Pirates are coming off a 54-48 win at College of the Canyons, the fifth ranked team in California. Ventura is 5-3 overall and 3-1 in conference play. Ventura and Canyons are tied for second place in the standings behind 4-1 Cerritos. The Bulldogs and Moorpark, which knocked off No. 4 Cerritos this weekend, are tied for fourth at 2-2 in league.
