Hancock Hosts Ventura Saturday In Final Home Game Of Season, Kickoff At 1 P.M.

The Allan Hancock College football team returns home this week for its final home game of the season. The Bulldogs (2-2, 4-4) welcome Ventura College on Saturday, November 7, with kickoff set for 1 p.m.  Ventura, which was ranked No. 14 in the state last week before upsetting No. 5 College of the Canyons, will arrive at Hancock Football Field 3-1 in conference and 5-3 overall. The next wave of polls is due out late Monday evening.

Last Time Out for Hancock:  Hancock overcame an early 21-10 deficit at Pasadena to outscore the Lancers 52-6 the rest of the way in a 62-27 rout to snap a three-game losing skid. The Bulldogs compiled season highs with 665 yards of offense, 488 rushing yards and eight sacks. Malik Williams returned from a two-game absence due to injury to run for a career-high 165 yards on 19 carries and three touchdowns. Bakari Davis set a personal-best with 116 yards on 16 carries and two scores. Quarterback Curry Parham (St. Joseph HS) ran for 61 yards, including a 25-yard touchdown. He completed three of six passes for 152 yards and two touchdowns, all to freshman wide receiver Chris Barganier (St. Joseph HS). The St. Joseph High School graduate caught touchdown passes of 79 and 55 yards from Parham. The 79-yard strike was the longest by a Bulldog receiver since 2011. Barganier finished with three catches for 152 yards and two touchdown receptions, all are career highs.

Sophomore tailback Jericho Worrell rushed for a career-high 98 yards on 15 carries, while Justin Banks ran for 50 on four carries, including a 38-yard run.

Sophomore kicker Jose Morales (Lompoc HS) made both of his field goal attempts, converting field goals of 35 and 29 yards. Defensively, Greg Artis-Payne led the squad with 10 tackles. Freshman defensive end Dondaycee Millbrook led the team with 4.5 sacks, while linebacker Josh Hawes had 1.5 sacks, and Davon Perry had one.

A Look at the Numbers:  Parham has completed 45.5 percent of his passes this season for 892 yards and six touchdowns with two interceptions. Williams leads the team with 459 rushing yards on 82 carries for five touchdowns over four games as a tailback. Worrell ranks second with 399 rushing yards. Davis leads the tailback corps with six rushing touchdowns.  Barganier is Parham's most frequent target with 22 catches for 398 yards and three touchdowns. Williams has 16 catches for 187 yards and one score. The freshman still leads the state with an average of 208.2 all-purpose yards per game, which include 100 yards worth of punt and kick return yards.

Artis-Payne still leads the team with 67 tackles, while Kevon Perry ranks second with 58 tackles. He leads the state with 22 tackles for loss, which include six sacks. Sophomore cornerback Elijah Holt (Arroyo Grande HS) leads the team with three interceptions and two punt returns for touchdowns. He ranks second on the Bulldogs with nine pass breakups behind only Davis who has 11.

The Bulldogs rank 14th in California with a scoring average of 35.1 points per game and sixth in the state with a per game average of 222 rushing yards.

Ventura College:  Ventura is 5-3 overall and 3-1 in conference play. Ventura and Canyons are tied for second place in the standings behind 4-1 Cerritos. The Bulldogs and Moorpark, which knocked off No. 4 Cerritos last weekend, are tied for fourth at 2-2.

The Pirates came from behind in the fourth quarter to upset No. 5 College of the Canyons last Saturday 54-48 behind 593 yards of total offense. Quarterback Ty Gangi completed 35 of 53 passes for 438 yards and four touchdowns passes. He threw completions to 11 different receivers in the game, and ran for 51 yards and one touchdown. Running back Chris Beeson had 96 yards on 20 carries and scored two touchdowns. Cam Taylor hauled in 10 receptions for 143 yards and two touchdowns, while Jordan Nunnery caught seven passes for 90 yards.

Beeson ranks 22nd in the state with 602 rushing yards, 86 yards per game, and seven touchdowns. Gangi has shared quarterback duties this season with Brandon Jones. Gangi has completed 129 of his 201 passes for 1,509 yards to go with 13 touchdowns and four interceptions. Jones has completed 99 of his 166 passes for 1,238 yards, 11 touchdowns and seven interceptions. The duo has helped the Pirates average 351 yards passing per game. Nick Rodriguez leads the team with 46 catches for 633 yards. He averages 90 yards per game through the air and has scored three touchdowns. Taylor has 31 receptions for 449 yards and six scores, while Nunnery has 29 receptions for 378 yards in five games and four touchdowns.

Defensively, linebacker Grant Bouma and defensive lineman Mark Zavala lead the Pirates with 49 tackles each. Zavala has 3.5 sacks and seven tackles for loss, while Bouma has four pass breakups. Defensive lineman Tre Haynes, a sophomore, has 2.5 sacks, seven tackles for loss and two interceptions. Freshman defensive back Britto Tutt leads the team with four interceptions, including one pick-six, and recovered fumble for a touchdown.

Ventura averages 43 points per game, which ranks fourth in the state, and 517.8 yards per game, which ranks second in California. The team's 233 first downs and 29.1 average per game rank highest in the state.

History with Ventura: Saturday will be the 37th all-time meeting between the two programs. The series is tied 18-18 as the Bulldogs seek their first win against the Pirates since 2009. Last year, the Pirates defeated Hancock 48-20 in Ventura.
