Football's Luke Guerrero Committed to Midway University

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - Allan Hancock College linebacker, Luke Guerrero, has committed to continuing his academic and athletic career at Midway University next season.

"I first heard about Midway when Coach Davis reached out to me about the school starting a new team," Guerrero stated. "My family and I did a visit and loved the campus, teachers, programs, and especially Kentucky! My younger sister fell in love with it all too and will be applying for Midway next year.'

The Santa Maria native will join the university's first-ever sprint football program in the fall. Sprint football, a sport in which each football player must weigh no more than 178 pounds, has been played for nearly a century at universities on the East Coast. Guerrero, an Ernest Righetti High School alum, spent one season on the sideline for the Bulldogs as a redshirt last fall.

"My first year at AHC prepared me, both physically and mentally, to succeed at the next level," Guerrero added. "I was able to meet teammates and many other players from all over America. I learned to play numerous positions and techniques that I feel will make me a valuable player next season."

Midway, located in Kentucky, will compete against five other private colleges in the newly-formed Midwest Sprint Football League.
