Men's Basketball Team Loses to Imperial Valley 72-79

    Three point shots were Imperial Valley’s secret weapon in a 79-72 win over the Allan Hancock College Bulldogs in the first round of the state playoffs on Wednesday night.
            It was three-pointers that turned the momentum of the game in the Arabs’ direction in the last ten minutes of the second half and it was three-point shots that helped them come back from a 15 point deficit to take the game. The Arabs were 14 for 21 in three point shots, compared to Bulldogs who shot 17 and made 7.
            The game began fast and furious with each team putting up shot after shot in the first few minutes. Toward the end of the half the Bulldogs pulled away and going into halftime Hancock was up 33-28.
            In the second half the Bulldogs widened their lead, but the Arabs steadily shipped away at a 12-point lead starting with two three-pointers followed by a turnover by the Bulldogs. With eleven minutes left the Arabs had taken the score to within one point and with ten minutes left in the half they had taken the lead for the first time since the first few minutes of the game.
            The Bulldogs, who had only two turnovers in the first half compared to the Arabs’ seven, turned over the ball eight times in the second half. With a 52-48 lead, Hancock took a time out, but the Arabs kept pressing and the score was 52-55 with nine minutes left in the half. The Bulldogs tied it up at 59-59 with six minutes left, but a series of three point shots gave the Arabs the lead and they kept it for the rest of the game.
            Sophomore Taylor Pruett undeniably had the best performance of the evening. He scored 29 points, had 11 rebound, two assists, two steals and one block. Jordan O’Byrne scored 13 points with nine assists and three steals and Abe Millsap scored 13 points and had two assists. Also on the board were Jordan Washington with eight points, Norris Spagner with four, Andrew Douby with three and Jacob Andersson with two.
