Men's Basketball Team Battle Rival Cuesta for Conf. Championship

The Bulldogs and Cougars have each won one game against the other team this season and in their third and final match-up of the season the two teams will battle it out for a first place finish. The game starts at 7 p.m. on Feb. 1 at the Joe White Memorial Gymnasium.

Cuesta is currently in first place in the Western State Conference with a 6-1 conference and 18-7 overall record and are ranked 11th in the Southern California Regional Poll. The Bulldogs are in second place with a 5-2 and 18-6 overall record and are ranked 14th.

Hancock won their first conference title since 1974 last season, after the Cougars had held the title in 2009 and 2010.

Coaches Ralph Gorton and Rusty Blair are determined to take the title for their team, but are even more determined to finish first and second in the conference, pushing Ventura out of the playoffs, Gorton said. The top two teams advance and Ventura is currently 5-2, but 13-11 overall.
