Bulldogs Fall in Title Game at Cuesta Tournament 84-76

Despite 31 points from Teyvon Myers, the Allan Hancock men's basketball team lost 84-76 to West Hills in the championship game at the 45th annual Rabobank Classic hosted by Cuesta College on Sunday night.

The Bulldogs, who were searching for their first title at the Cuesta Tournament, dropped to 2-1 on the season under first-year head coach Tyson Aye. West Hills captured the Classic championship for the third time and first since 2006.

The game was tied 36-36 at the half. The Falcons heated up from three-point range and built a double-digit lead in the second half. Myers , a freshman from Brooklyn, New York, hit back-to-back three-point shots to bring Hancock back to within 74-71 with 3:42 to play.

DJ Billingsley and Marquis Rivera added 10 points each for Hancock. Isaiah Hicks and Yukijiro Yashiro poured in 8 points apiece in the losing effort. Hicks and Josh Varney led the Bulldogs with 6 rebounds apiece. 

Martin scored his 31 points on 11 for 28 shooting. He made just 4 of his 14 attempts from beyond the arc. Hancock shot 18 percent from 3-point range at a 5 for 27 clip. The Bulldogs made 27 of their 76 shots overall from the floor and shot 63 percent from the free-throw line by making 17 of their 27 shots.

Four Falcons scored 11 or more points led by DeVonte Jenkins, who scored 29 points to go with 10 rebounds. Nick Gianakoulias was 4 for 8 from 3-point range to finish with 14 points. Aeastly Montilla and Isaiah Scott added 11 points each for West Hills.

Hancock freshman Andre Miller and Varney were named to the All-Tournament Team. Miller averaged 8.3 points, while Varney averaged 9 points and 7.7 rebounds in Hancock's three games.

Hancock returns to action Friday, Nov.15 at the Fresno City Tournament. The Bulldogs face San Francisco at 4 p.m.
