Come-From-Behind Victory Nets Bulldogs Bakersfield Tournament Crown

Bakersfield, CA - Teyvon Myers led a trio of double-digit scorers as the Allan Hancock College men's basketball team rallied late to edge Merritt 82-79 to capture the Bakersfield Tournament title on Saturday night. 

The Bulldogs, who trailed by seven points with five minutes to go in the game, improved to 5-3 on the season after a perfect 2-0 mark at the tournament.

Merritt, which started the preseason ranked 16th in the state, dropped to 5-3.

Myers, a freshman guard from Brooklyn, New York, paced the Bulldogs with 23 points. He averaged 22.5 points in the tournament and was named the Tournament Most Valuable Player. He was 8 of 18 from the floor and 6 for 7 from the free throw line before he fouled out of the game.

Sophomore forward DJ Billingsley and freshman Warren Dix each poured in 13 points for Hancock. Billingsley also pulled down a team-best 8 rebounds. Dix, who had two steals, along with Andre Miller drained two 3-point buckets each.  Miller, a freshman guard from Junipero Serra High School, enjoyed a solid all-around game with 8 points, 6 rebounds and a team-best 5 assists.

Isaiah Hicks added 9 points and pulled down 6 rebounds for Hancock. Hicks was named to the All-Tournament Team. The freshman wing from Long Beach averaged 12 points and 7 rebounds over the weekend.

Hancock shot 54.3 percent in the first half and 46.8 percent for the game. As a team, the Bulldogs made 18 of their 26 free throws for a 69.2 percent mark.

Head coach Tyson Aye's squad returns to action on December 12 against LA Valley at the Santa Barbara City College Tournament.
