Hancock Falls to Undefeated Irvine Valley in Semifinals 74-67

Despite 30 points from Teyvon Myers, the Allan Hancock College men's basketball team's effort to knock off the only undefeated team left in the state fell short. The Bulldogs lost 74-67 to Irvine Valley in the semifinals of the tournament hosted by Santa Barbara City College on Friday night.

The Bulldogs, who are ranked 20th in the state and 10th in the Southern California Regional poll, dropped to 6-4 on the season. Irvine Valley, which is ranked 5th in So-Cal and 11th in the state, improved to a perfect 11-0.

Myers made 9 of his 21 shots from the floor, including 4 of his 10 shots from 3-point range. He also was 8 for 9 from the free-throw line. Sophomore D.J. Billingsley was 5 for 7 from the field and finished with 11 points and 4 rebounds. Kadeem Minor added 9 points and Isaiah Hicks tallied 7 points and a team-high 9 rebounds.

Hancock was out-rebounded 38-32 by Irvine Valley. The Bulldogs shot 45.3 percent from the floor and made seven of their 20 shots from beyond-the-arc for a 35 percent clip. Irvine Valley hit 46.7 percent of its shots from the floor and four of its 14 3-point attempts (28.6 percent).

Irvine Valley led from start to finish and carried a 35-32 lead into halftime.

Hancock battles Cypress (3-7) at 5 p.m. on Saturday for third place. Irvine Valley faces Victory Valley for the championship at 7 p.m.
