Bulldogs Beat Cypress 86-75 to Claim Third Place at SBCC Tournament

Four Bulldogs scored ten-or-more points as the Allan Hancock College men's basketball team defeated Cypress 86-75 on Saturday night to claim third place at the tournament hosted by Santa Barbara City College.

The Bulldogs, who are ranked 20th in the state, improved to 7-4 on the season, while Cypress dropped to 3-8.

Freshman Teyvon Myers led the Bulldogs with 20 points on 7 for 17 shooting from the floor, including 4 for 11 from three-point range. Josh Varney enjoyed his finest game of the season with 19 points and 4 rebounds. The sophomore was 8 for 11 from the floor.

Isaiah Hicks was a perfect six for six shooting and finished with 14 points. DJ Billingsley added 10 points on 4 for 7 shooting.

Andre Miller and Yukijiro Yashiro had six assists apiece.

The Bulldogs shot 56.7 percent in the first half and 50 percent in the game. They hit five three-points in each half and were 10 for 23 from downtown on the night for a 43.5 percent clip.  Warren Dix hit three from long-range and Kadeem Minor added two from beyond the arc.

Hancock plays next on Friday, Dec. 20, against El Camino at a tournament hosted by the College of the Sequoias.

Irvine Valley, which beat Hancock by seven in the semifinals, defeated Victory Valley 84-78 on Saturday to capture the SBCC tournament championship. Irvine Valley is 12-0 and the only undefeated men's team left in California this season.
