Myers Powers Bulldogs to 99-94 Overtime Win at Moorpark in WSC Opener

(Moorpark, CA) -  Fueled by a season-high 39 points from Teyvon Myers and 21 points from Isaiah Hicks, the Allan Hancock College men's basketball team started Western State Conference play with a 99-94 overtime victory at Moorpark on Wednesday night.

The Bulldogs are now 1-0 in WSC play and 10-8 overall. Moorpark fell to 0-1 in conference and 4-9 on the season.

Moorpark's Shaquille Moore hit a 30-foot shot with less than a second to play in regulation to send the game into overtime tied 83-83. However, the Bulldogs controlled the overtime period by sinking all 10 of their free throws.

Four Bulldogs scored in double figures led by Myers, who made 11 of his 23 shots from the floor and was a perfect 15 for 15 from the free throw line. Hicks was 9 for 15 from the field, including a 2 for 4 mark from the 3-point line, to finish with a season-best 21 points. 

Kadeem Minor went 9 for 11 from the free throw line and poured in 16 points to go with seven rebounds. Freshman forward DJ Billingsley recorded a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds, all on the defensive-end of the court. 

Richard Thomas led the host Raiders with 27 points. 

Hancock was 31 for 65 from the floor for a 47.7 percent mark. The Bulldogs were 5 for 14 from 3-point range, which was a 35.7 percentage. Hancock won the game at the free throw line with a 32 for 38 effort, which equated to an 84.2 percent clip.

The Bulldogs return home to host rival Cuesta on Saturday, Jan.11, at 5 p.m. in Joe White Memorial Gymnasium. The Cougars topped the Bulldogs 74-67 at Hancock almost two weeks ago on the final day of the Bulldog Classic. 

Cuesta, which is ranked 20th in the state this week, overcame a 12-point halftime deficit to defeat Ventura 78-70 in its conference opener on Wednesday night. The Cougars are 1-0 in WSC action and 12-7 overall. They've won four in a row.
