Hancock Men Beat Moorpark 72-55 Behind Myers

Teyvon Myers returned from a four-game suspension to score 22 points and lead the Allan Hancock College men to a 72-55 victory over Moorpark in a Western State Conference game on Saturday night in Joe White Memorial Gymnasium.  

Myers came off the bench to play 32 minutes. He made 6 of his 16 shots from the field and 9 of his 12 free throws to lead the Bulldogs. Hancock shot 46.9 pecent on the night after hitting 23 of its 49 shots. Hancock went 8 for 21 (38.1 percent) from 3-point range. Rijo Jackson, a Lompoc High School graduate, went 3 for 4 from long distance to finish with 13 points. Josh Varney continued his strong play of late with 10 points and 13 rebounds for a double-double. The sophomore pulled down six offensive rebounds. Hancock outrebounded Moorpark 38 to 24. Isaiah Hicks added eight points and six rebounds.

The Hancock men improved to 4-3 in conference action and 13-11 for the season. Moorpark is also 4-3 in WSC play, but 8-11 for the season.

Lamar Clinton and Jackson hit 3-pointers on back-to-back possessions to open the game. Jackson followed with a jumper to give the Bulldogs an 8-0 lead with 17:49 to go in the first half.  Hancock led 20-19 with 6:57 to go when the Bulldogs closed out the half on a 20-7 run to carry at 40-26 lead into intermission.

Shayan Baloor led Moorpark with 15 points. Shaquille Moore added 13 points, 10 rebounds and six assists.  Hancock's defense limited Moorpark to a 33.3 field goal percentage on 18 for 54 shooting. The Raiders made 10 of their 31 shots from 3-point range for a 32.3 percentage.

Hancock returns to action Wednesday, Feb. 5, at Cuesta College. The women play at 5 p.m., with the met scheduled to go at 7 p.m.
