Despite 41 from Myers, Bulldogs Drop 93-90 Battle at Cuesta

            The Allan Hancock College men's basketball team erased a 21-point second half deficit to take a three point lead with 3:30 to play, but the Bulldogs dropped a 93-90 decision at Cuesta College on Wednesday night. Freshman Teyvon Myers scored a season-high 41 points for the Bulldogs.

            Hancock fell to 4-4 in Western State Conference action and 13-12 overall. Cuesta, which is ranked 20th in the state this week, improved to 6-2 in WSC action and 17-9 for the season.  Cuesta won all three meetings with Hancock this season.

            Myers made 12 of his 23 shots, including half of his eight shots from 3-point range. He also made 13 of his 14 free throw shots. Josh Varney added 12 points and Isaiah Hicks poured in 13 more to go with a team-best six rebounds.  

            The Bulldogs shot 53.8 percent from the field by making 28 of their 52 shots. They went 8 for 14 from 3-point range (57.1 percent) and made 26 of their 31 free throws (83.9 percent). Hancock outrebounded the Cougars 27-23. 

            Oscar Pedroso led the Cougars with 35 points. The sophomore went 5 for 8 from 3-point territory and made 10 of his 11 free throws.  He added a team-high eight rebounds.  Brett Hartshorne poured in 18 points on a 7 for 10 effort from the floor. Alex Igual scored 10 points and recorded five steals and eight assists. Valentin Bauer added 10 points and seven assists.

            Cuesta shot 62.3 percent in the game, including 45 percent from 3-point range. The Cougars made 72 percent of their 25 free throw shots.

            The Cougars led 55-36 at halftime.

            The Cougars gained sole possession of first place by half a game over idle Ventura. Hancock hosts Ventura on Saturday at 5 p.m.  The Bulldogs will honor the school's 1957 and 1974 State Championship men's basketball teams during a halftime ceremony on Saturday.
