Hancock to Host Third Annual Coaches vs. Cancer Event on Feb.19

Can Allan Hancock College President Kevin Walthers dunk a basketball? Will head football coach Kris Dutra hit a 3-point basket? Folks will find out during the third annual Coaches vs. Cancer event on Wednesday, Feb.19, in Joe White Memorial Gymnasium.

During halftime of the men's basketball team's final home game of the season against Santa Barbara City College, a team of Hancock students will play a basketball scrimmage against President Walthers, coach Dutra and other Hancock faculty and staff.

The Hancock and SBCC women play at 5 p.m., followed by the men at 7 p.m. The Coaches vs. Students scrimmage will start around 7:30 p.m.

"Every family one way or another has been affected by this disease. Allan Hancock College wants to do its part to make a difference in this battle by raising awareness of cancer and helping find a cure," said Athletic Director Kim Ensing.

All proceeds from ticket and concession sales, as well as the purchase of commemorative T-shirts, will go to the Coaches vs. Cancer program, which is run by the American Cancer Society. The program empowers coaches, their teams and communities to join the fight against cancer. Over the years, the nationwide program has raised more than $87 million to help the American Cancer Society's mission to raise cancer awareness and to find a cure.
