Bulldogs Soar to 85-65 Victory over Vaqueros in Final Home Game

The Allan Hancock College men's basketball team scored the first ten points of the game and never looked back in an 85-65 win over Santa Barbara City College in the Bulldogs' final home game of the regular season on Wednesday in Joe White Memorial Gymnasium. 

The Bulldogs improved to 6-5 in Western State Conference play and 15-13 overall to guarantee a plus-.500 record. Santa Barbara remained winless in conference action at 0-11 and 1-21 for the year.

Josh Varney, who was playing in his final home game as a Bulldog, led four Hancock players in double figures with a season-high 22 points. The sophomore made 6 of his 9 shots from the floor and went 10 for 12 from the free throw line. He added three blocked shots and five rebounds 

Isaiah Hicks added 15 points on 6 for 10 shooting from the floor to go with a team-high seven rebounds. Sophomore guard Yukijiro Yashiro added a season-high 12 points, while Warren Dix poured in 10 points. Freshman guard Andre Miller dished out a career-high 11 assists to go with six rebounds and three points.

Lompoc High School graduate Rijo Jackson added eight points, while Kadeem Minor poured in nine.

After jumping out to a 10-0 lead in the first five minutes of the game, Hancock maintained a ten-point advantage 25-15 with 7:06 to play. The Bulldogs ended the half on a 22-8 run fueled by 3-point buckets from Dix and Yashiro, and seven points from Hicks. Rijo Jackson buried a three in the closing seconds to give Hancock a 47-23 lead at the half.

Hancock shot 60.4 percent from the floor in the game on 29 for 48 shooting. SBCC made 24 of its 50 shots from the field for a 48 percent mark. Hancock made 20 of its 25 free throws, which equated to 80 percent.

The Bulldogs dominated the glass and held a 31 to 15 edge in rebounds.

Pablo Miranda led the Vaqueros with 16 points, while Alonzo McCain added 10 points 

The Bulldogs close out the regular season on Saturday at College of the Canyons at 5 p.m.
