Three Bulldogs Score All-Conference Honors

While the waiting game to learn their postseason fate continues, three members of the Allan Hancock College men's basketball team received All-Conference honors on Sunday. Freshman Isaiah Hicks earned a spot on the Western State Conference-North Division's First Team. Freshman point guard Andre Miller and sophomore forward Josh Varney received honorable mention.

Hicks, a 6-foot-5 freshman wing, averaged 12.1 points and six rebounds per game. He ranked fourth in the division with a 52.4 field goal percentage and fourth with 178 total rebounds. Hicks also made 38 percent of his 3-point shots.

Varney, a 6-foor-7 forward, averaged 9 points and 5.4 rebounds.  The sophomore led the division with a .576 shooting percentage and ranked ninth with 156 total rebounds.  He came on strong late in the season and averaged 15.7 points over the last three games. During that span he scored a season-high 22 points against Santa Barbara and scored the game-winning bucket at Pierce 

Miller, a freshman point guard, finished the regular season averaging 6.1 points, 4.4 rebounds and a conference-leading 5.5 assists per game. Miller ranks ninth in the state in assists per game. Miller led the team with a free throw percentage of .757.

The Bulldogs wrapped up the regular season on Saturday with a 77-71 come-from-behind win at College of the Canyons. Hicks led the way with 29 points, Miller added 14 and Varney poured in 13 points. The Bulldogs finished the season on a three-game winning streak to secure third place in the conference standings at 7-5. They went 16-13 overall under first-year head coach Tyson Aye.

The Bulldogs find out if they will play in the postseason on Monday afternoon. Hancock is looking to make its fourth straight appearance in the state playoffs.

Cuesta won the WSC-North Division title with a 10-2 record, while Ventura finished second at 9-3. Cuesta head coach Rusty Blair earned Coach of the Year honors, while Cougar sophomore Oscar Pedroso was named Most Valuable Player.
