Dominant Second Half Leads Bulldogs to 83-43 Rout Over Santa Barbara City College

A 32-6 run in the first 13 minutes of the second half turned a tight first half into an 83-43 blowout victory for the Allan Hancock College men's basketball team. The Bulldogs outscored the visiting Vaqueros 50-14 in the second half after taking a 33-29 into halftime. Hancock cashed 19 second half SBCC turnovers into 34 points and carried a 50-4 advantage in points off turnovers for the game.

Hancock improved to 4-1 in Western State Conference play and 9-10 overall. SBCC dropped to 0-5 in conference and 4-13 overall.

All five Hancock starters scored 11 or more points led by Lawrence Johnson and Arinze Anakwenze who had 17 points apiece. Johnson was four for eight from the field and eight for 12 from the free throw line. The sophomore guard added six assists and two steals. Anakwenze was six for eight from the floor and six for eight from the free throw line. He added two boards, two steals and one blocked shot.

Andre Miller finished with 15 points on five for seven shooting, including three of five from three-point range. He had six rebounds, four assists and two steals. Freshman guard Matt Willkomm added 14 points off six for 11 shooting. He added four rebounds and three steals. Kadeem Minor scored all 11 of his points in the second half and led the team with seven rebounds. Shamel Williams came off the bench to score six points, grab four boards and collect three steals. Alex Chaidez added a three-pointer and had three steals.

Hancock shot 54 percent in the second half (19 for 35) and finished at 51 percent for the game (28 for 55). The Bulldogs were eight for 21 from long range for a 38 percent clip. They made 19 of 26 free throws for a 73 percent mark. Overall, they turned the ball over just 11 times and had 16 steals.

Santa Barbara shot 39 percent (16 fo4 41) overall. The Vaqueros had 31 turnovers and were outrebounded by Hancock 27 to 24. Sean Keyes and Thomas Walker had 10 points apiece to lead SBCC. Walker led the club with seven rebounds.

Hancock returns to action on Wednesday, Jan. 28, at Oxnard.
