Bulldogs Fall 70-51 To Fullerton, Finish Fourth At Cuesta Tournament

The Allan Hancock College men's basketball finished in fourth place at the annual Cuesta College Tournament after falling 70-51 to Fullerton College on Sunday afternoon. The Bulldogs finished the opening weekend with a 1-2 record, while the Hornets left San Luis Obispo with a 2-1 mark.

Freshman Malik Rhodes led the Bulldogs with 14 points. He made five of his nine shots overall, including two of his five from three-point range. He added three steals.

Joe Riley added eight points in the second half and six rebounds off the bench for Hancock. Freshman post player Tim Ford finished with seven points and a team-high eight rebounds.

Fullerton limited Hancock's All-Conference guard Matt Willkomm, an Arroyo Grande High School graduate, to five points, all of which came in the first half. He took just five shots in the game and made two of them, including one from three-point territory.

The Bulldogs struggled from the floor in the first half and made only seven of their 22 shots (32 percent) and two of 10 from three-point range. Hancock trailed 33-21 at halftime.

Overall, the Bulldogs shot 40 percent in the game and made 18 of their 45 shots. Hancock was four for 16 from beyond-the-arc for 25 percent. Hancock also cashed in on 50 percent of its 22 free throws.

Kenny Barnes led the Hornets with 14 points, including 10 in the first half, while Ian Fox and Julian Richardson added 13 points apiece. Richardson, a sophomore, made four of his eight shots from long-range. Fox led Fullerton with five assists.

Fullerton shot 45 percent from the floor on 23 for 49 shooting, and hit eight of its 16 shots from three-point range. The Hornets also made 80 percent of their 20 free throws. 

The Bulldogs open a four-game homestand next Saturday, Nov. 14, with a 3 p.m. game against the junior varsity team from William Jessup University. They will host the inaugural Home Motors Invitational from Nov. 20-22, inside Joe White Memorial Gymnasium. To view the schedule, click here.
