Second-Half Comeback Falls Short, Bulldogs Fall 66-64 to Ohlone to Finish Fourth in 16-Team Modesto Tournament Field

Shane Carney scored 12 of his team-high 16 points to fuel a second-half comeback that fell just short as the Allan Hancock College men's basketball team fell 66-64 to Ohlone College in the third place game of the 78th annual Modesto Junior College Basketball Tournament. The Bulldogs came in fourth in the field of 16 teams. Their overall record dropped to 7-7. Ohlone improved to 5-8.

Marcellus Garrick scored six points and Carney had four in the first half, but Hancock trailed 35-24 at halftime.

The Bulldogs outscored Ohlone 40-31 in the second half behind 12 form Carney, eight from Malik Rhodes and six more from Garrick.

Garrick finished with 12 points, while Rhodes added 10. Tim Ford scored seven points for the Bulldogs.

Hancock played without starting guard Matt Willkomm, who sat out with an injury.

Hancock returns to action on Dec. 28 when it hosts its 51st annual Holiday Classic. Cuesta opens the tournament at 3 p.m. against Bakersfield. Cerritos will play Fresno City College at 5 p.m. The Bulldogs play Rio Hondo at 7 p.m. to close out the first day.
