Garrick and Lord Spark Hancock Men to 96-85 Win at Santa Barbara

Marcellus Garrick tied his career high with 26 points, and Kevawn Lord set a new career best with 24 points to lead an all-around team effort by the Allan Hancock College men's basketball team's 96-85 win at Santa Barbara City College Saturday evening. The Bulldogs, who beat the Vaqueros for the first time in three tries this season, improved to 3-5 in Western State Conference play and 13-15 overall. The Vaqueros fell to 3-5 in league and 5-19 on the season.

Garrick scored 14 points, Whiteside poured in seven and Lord scored six to give Hancock a 40-34 lead at halftime. Hancock went 12-for-14 from the free-throw line in the first 20 minutes. Eight different Bulldogs scored in the first half. 

The Bulldogs erupted for 56 points in the second half behind 18 from Lord, 12 more from Garrick, and nine from freshman point guard Nolan Willett. Garrick hit three 3-pointers in the second half and four in the game.  The Bulldogs went 15-for-19 from the line in the second half and 27-for-33 (82 percent) on the night.

Whiteside finished the night with 10 points, six assists, six rebounds, and six steals. Freshman Erik Kinnebrew added seven points, six rebounds, and seven assists. Willett finished with 11 points and freshman Troy Bolden had seven.

The Bulldogs will return to action at home Wednesday, February 15, at 5 p.m. against Cuesta in their final home game of the season.
