Hancock Receives No. 10 Seed and First Round Bye in SoCal Regionals, Bulldogs Play at No. 7 Fullerton in Friday's Second Round

After a 21-win season and second-place finish in the Western State Conference North Division, the Allan Hancock College men's basketball team received the No. 10 seed in the California Community College Athletic Association's (CCCAA) Southern California Regional Playoffs. The Bulldogs received a first-round bye and will open Friday evening at No. 7 Fullerton in a second-round game. Tipoff will be at 7 p.m.  Hancock finished the regular season second in the Western State Conference North Division standings at 8-2 and 21-9 overall.

This season, the Bulldogs reached the 20-win mark for the first time in five years and won the most games in a single-season since taking 23 games in 2000-01. They will be making their first postseason appearance since Head Coach Tyson Aye's first year with the Bulldogs in 2013-14.

Fullerton finished second in the Orange Empire Conference at 9-3 and 20-7 overall. Sophomore guard Jason Richardson is the team's leading scorer at 18.4 points per game, followed by guard Khalil Stevenson at 10.1 points, center Ronne Readus at 9.4 and Vaj Rice at 9.0 points.

Hancock and Fullerton have four common opponents this season: East Los Angeles, Cuesta, West Hills Coalinga and Pasadena City. Both teams lost to East L.A. ad defeated Pasadena City College and Cuesta. Hancock defeated West Hills 79-68, but Fullerton lost 85-72.

The last time Hancock and Fullerton played was during the season-opening Cuesta Tournament in November 2015. Hancock lost to the Hornets 70-51.

San Diego City (29-2) received the No. 1 seed in the SoCal Regional. Ventura (21-8), which won its third straight WSC title and edged the Bulldogs by one game, received the No. 9 seed. The Pirates will play at No. 8 Copper Mountain (20-9). Cuesta (16-15), which finished third in the WSC North, received the No. 15 seed in the region and will host a first-round play-in game against No. 18 Antelope Valley (16-14) on Wednesday. The winner will advance to take on No. 2 San Bernardino Valley (26-4) in Saturday's second round.
