Holt, Johnson Win Events in Bulldogs' Track Season Opener

Elijah Holt won the men's 110 meter hurdles and Leroy Johnson won the triple jump to lead the Allan Hancock College men's track and field team to a sixth place finish at the Battle of the Regions hosted by Bakersfield College on Friday.  The Hancock women finished ninth.

The Hancock men tallied 39.5 points.  The Hancock women earned 21 points.  Modesto finished first in both competitions. The men earned 153 points and the women earned 126.

Johnson won the triple jump with a top mark of 45 feet, 11 inches. The freshman finished third in the long jump with a top mark of 20 feet, seven inches.  He also came in seventh in the high jump with a clearance of five feet, eight inches. Johnson accounted for 17.5 points.

Holt won the 110 meter high hurdles with a time of 15.49 seconds. The freshman, who graduated from Arroyo Grande High School, earned 10 points for the Bulldogs. 

Other impressive finishes for the Hancock men were by Joshua Thornton, who earned three points with a fourth place finish in the 100 meter dash. He was clocked in 11.24 seconds. Freshman Ashton Favela came in seventh in the pole vault by clearing 10 feet to earn two more points. Sophomore Bruce Detter came in sixth in the shot put with a top throw of 37 feet, three inches to secure three team points.  He also finished sixth in the men's discus throw when he registered a throw of 113 feet, six inches. Gregory Uzueta finished eighth to earn a point with a top throw of 109 feet, 10 inches.

Sophomore Kenji Conaway ran the 800 meter run in 2:07.37 and freshman Calvin Jean was clocked in the 200 meter dash in 23.22 seconds. 

Cassandra Bantz earned six points for the women with a third place finish in the pole vault. The freshman cleared seven feet, six inches. She also earned four points with a fifth place finish in the long jump by registering a mark of 13 feet, six inches. Sylvana Swain earned three more points in the event with a top leap of 13 feet, four inches. Swain finished second in the triple jump to register eight more points for the Hancock women with a top jump of 32 feet, eight inches.
