Hancock Men Win WSC Coastal Meet for First Conference Victory in at Least 13 Years

The Allan Hancock College men's track and field team won six events on its way to a first place finish during the Western State Conference Coastal Meet hosted by Cuesta College on Friday afternoon. It marked the first conference meet victory for the men's program since Louie Quintana became the head coach 13 years ago. 

The Hancock men finished with 174.3 points to distance themselves from Santa Barbara (144), Ventura (141.6), Santa Monica (111) and the host Cougars (102).

Sophomore Steven de Comarmond, a graduate of Santa Maria High School, won the 200 meter dash (22.36 seconds) to edge teammate Calvin Jean (22.46).  Jean also finished third in the 400 meter run (50.41).

Elijah Holt edged DeComarmond in the 110 meter high hurdles. Holt, a freshman and Arroyo Grande High School graduate, won the event in 15.41 seconds. DeComarmond was clocked in 15.42.

Freshman Leroy Johnson won the long jump (6.44 m) and finished third in the triple jump (13.42 m). Jonathan General won the 100 meter dash (11.13 seconds) and finished second in the long jump (13.50 m).   

The Bulldogs won the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 42.62 seconds, winning by nearly .60 of a second.

Sophomore thrower Bruce Detter won the discus throw (37.25 meters) to pace a 1-2-3 Bulldog finish in the event. Michael Orosco finished second (36.28 m) and Gregory Uzueta placed third (35.45 m). Detter, a Pioneer Valley High School graduate, finished second in the hammer throw (35.48 m), fourth in the shot put (11.36 m), and fifth in the javelin throw (37.98 m). Uzueta, a freshman and Nipomo High School alumnus, finished third in the hammer (40.82 m). 

Hancock will send a contingent of athletes to the Cal Poly Invitational on Saturday.

The next conference meet is April 18 when the Bulldogs compete in the Western State Conference Prelims at the College of the Canyons at 1 p.m.
