Springer, Dionisio Shine in Men's Track Season Opener

Freshmen Jared Springer and Brent Dionisio shined for the Allan Hancock College men's track and field team on Friday during the Bulldogs' first meet of the 2015 season. Hancock finished ninth out of 12 teams with 19 points at the Battle of the Regions hosted by Bakersfield College. College of the Sequoias won with 149 points, followed by Modesto (123.66) and Canyons (91).

Springer earned eight points with a second place finish in the men's shot put. The top throw for the Nipomo High School graduate was 41 feet, 10.5 inches. The freshman also earned points in the hammer throw with a fifth place finish (124-11) and sixth place finish in the javelin throw (116-2). He also finished eighth in the discus throw (116-10).

Dionisio finished second in the men's high jump to earn eight points for Hancock. His top clearance was six feet, three inches. He owns the record at Pioneer Valley High School with a top mark of 6-8. The freshman also finished 10th in the long jump with a mark of 19-6.

Other top competitors for Hancock were sophomore Jonathon General, the reigning WSC champion in the 100 meter dash. General finished ninth in the long jump (19-8.25) and 2th in the 200 meter dash (23.73 seconds). Freshman Travis Eskew came in ninth in the men's pole vault with a top clearance of 9-5.75.

The Bulldogs return to action on Friday, Feb. 20, at the Western State Conference Relays hosted by Ventura College.
