Mondol Sets Three PRs, Molesky Breaks One During First Day of SoCal Multi-Events Regional Championships

(San Diego, CA) Khalil Mondol set three personal-best marks, while Allison Molesky broke one personal-best mark during the first day of the Southern California Combined Events Regional Championships in San Diego on Tuesday.

Mondol, a sophomore, sits in fifteenth place after the first five events in the men's decathlon with a total of 1,682 points. The Righetti High School graduate was clocked in the 100 meter dash in 12.66 seconds to improve his prior best-time of 12.81 seconds. He cleared 17 feet, 1.5 inches in the long jump, and recorded a throw of 24 feet, 9.75 inches in the shot put to break his previous best marks by 1.5 inches and 17.25 inches respectively. He ran the 400 meter dash in 1:00.68. However, he did not clear a height in the high jump. 

Mondol completed his first decathlon last month at the Northridge Invitational when he set five personal-best marks and finished with 3,214 points. 

Jherrell Charles of Riverside leads after the first day with 3,405 points, one point ahead of Cuesta's Max Clark. The final five events, javelin, pole vault, 110 meter hurdles, discus throw and 1,500 meter run will take place on Wednesday.

Molesky sits in fifteenth place with 1,346 total points after the first four events of the women's heptathlon. Breanna Curry of Cerritos College sits in first place with 2,832 total points. Jasmine Williams of Fullerton is in second place with 2,684 points.

Molesky, a freshman, ran the 100 meter hurdles in 19.57 seconds and cleared four feet in the high jump. The Nipomo High School graduate set a personal-best in the shot put with a mark of 21 feet, 5.25 inches. She was also clocked in the 200 meter dash in 31.69 seconds.

Molesky completed her first heptathlon last month at the Northridge Invitational to qualify for Regionals with a total score of 2,353 points. She became the first Hancock female athlete to qualify to the SoCal Championships in the heptathlon.

The final three events of the heptathlon are on Wednesday at San Diego Mesa College. They include the long jump, javelin throw and 800 meter run.
