Dionisio Finishes Sixth, Springer Comes in Ninth at Prestigious Mt. SAC Invitational

Freshman Brent Dionisio finished sixth in the men's high jump and Jared Springer came in ninth in the men's discus throw during the prestigious Mt. San Antonio College Invitational on Saturday.

Dionisio, a Pioneer Valley High School graduate, cleared six feet, five-and-a-half inches in the high jump. He cleared 6-5.5 on his first attempt, but could not clear 6-7.5. He finished sixth out of 18 community college athletes invited to compete in the event. Edwin Matthews of American River College won the event by clearing 6-9.5 on his first attempt.

Springer finished first in the first flight of the men's discus throw competition that included 10 male athletes with a top throw of 140 feet, five inches. He received three additional throws in the final, but his first throw of the day traveled the farthest. Springer finished with ninth overall in the field of 19 throwers.Daniel Roberts of Modesto won the event with a top mark of 172 feet.

The Nipomo High School graduate also competed in the men's shot put. However, he fouled on all three of his attempts in the first round and did not advance.

The Bulldogs return to action on Friday, April 17, at the Western State Conference Prelims at Ventura College. The conference finals will be on April 24, at Santa Barbara City College.
