Dionisio, Springer Advance to Southern California Finals

Freshmen Brent Dionisio and Jared Springer advanced into next week's CCCAA Southern California Regional Finals with top nine finishes during the SoCal Preliminaries at Cerritos College on Saturday.

Dionisio tied for ninth place in the men's high jump among more than 20 athletes. The Pioneer Valley High School graduate cleared six feet, 3.5 inches to advance into next week's final.

Springer qualified for the finals in the men's shot put and hammer throw events. The Nipomo High School graduate broke his own school record on three consecutive throws in the hammer throw. He reached 150-2, 151-11, and 156-7 to finish in eighth place. He broke his previous school record of 146-10.

Springer registered the twelfth best throw in the shot put of 44-5.25 to qualify. The Western State Conference discus champion did not advance to the finals in the discus. His top throw was 131-9, which fell seven feet short of what was needed for a top 12 finish.

Nipomo High School graduates Allison Molesky and Kendrick Keszler competed for the Bulldogs in the triple jump. Keszler fouled on all three of his jumps and did not advance to the finals. Molesky's top mark was 29-5.25, which was nearly three feet shy of what was required to qualify for the finals.

The SoCal finals will be Saturday, May 9, at Cerritos College.
