Hancock women Rout Vaqueros, Finish Third at Bulldog Classic

The Allan Hancock College women's basketball team rebounded from a heartbreaking loss to Barstow with a dominant 75-47 win over Santa Barbara to claim third place in the Lady Bulldog Classic on Saturday. 

The Bulldogs improved to 8-3 after leading from start to finish against the Vaqueros.

Justine Roland led the way with 20 points and 18 rebounds. She made 8 of 19 shots from the floor and all four of her free-throws.

Ali Rodriguez was 7 for 11 from the field and hit 3 of 4 from three-point range. The freshman finished with 19 points, three steals and three assists.

Emma Weinreich compiled 10 points and six of her eight rebounds were on the offensive end. The Arroyo Grande High School graduate also dished out six assists. Nicole DeLaGuerra poured in nine points and Veronica Sua added eight off the bench.

Celina Caleron added four points and six assists.

Hancock shot 48.3 percent from the floor and made 15 of its 18 free-throws for an 83.3 percent mark.

The Bulldogs jumped out to a 15-6 lead in the first five minutes behind five points from Rodriguez and six from Roland. They build a commanding 44-24 at halftime and never looked back.

Hancock returns to action on Friday, Dec.20 against Modesto at 4 p.m. to open the West Hills Tournament.

Cuesta won the Hancock tournament title by defeating Barstow 69-56. The Cougars are now 11-0. Miriam Zabinsky led the Cougars with 21 points. Jerrica Crosby, a Morro Bay High product, added 13 and Melissa Lemus finished with 11.
