Hancock Crushes Hartnell 71-18 Behind 18 from Sua, 16 from Weinreich

The Bulldogs scored the first 17 points of the game and cruised to a 71-18 victory over visiting Hartnell on Friday afternoon in Joe White Memorial Gymnasium. The Allan Hancock College women's basketball team finished the preseason with a 10-5 record after producing its largest margin of victory of the season at 53 points. Hartnell fell to 0-11.

Veronica Sua scored a season-high 18 points to lead three Bulldogs in double figures. The St. Joseph High School graduate added nine rebounds for the Bulldogs. Arroyo Grande High School product Emma Weinreich poured in 16 to go with nine boards and four assists. Freshman Ali Rodriguez scored 13 for the Bulldogs.

Hancock shot 51.8 percent for the game on 29 for 56 from the floor. The Bulldogds outrebounded the Mariners 45 to 25. Hancock's defense also forced 29 turnovers from Hartnell. 

The Bulldogs took a 17-0 lead after Celina Calderon buried a 3-point bucket just 6:14 into the game. Hartnell scored a bucket, but Hancock responded with a 12-2 run to build a 27-4 lead with 8:13 to go in the first half. Hancock carried a 37-12 lead into halftime after shooting 58.3 percent in the first half. Hartnell made 5 of its 30 shots in the first 20 minutes for a 16.7 percent mark. Rodriguez, Weinreich and Sua each had 10 points in the first half.

Calderon finished with nine points for the Bulldogs. Justine Roland added 7 points to go with 10 rebounds.

The Bulldogs return to action on Wednesday, Jan.8 at Moorpark College in both teams' Western State Conference openers.
