Red-Hot Rodriguez Leads Bulldogs to 79-65 Win over L.A. Pierce, Hancock Advances into Consolation Final at Cuesta Tournament

After missing all eight of her three-point attempts on Thursday, Allan Hancock College sophomore Ali Rodriguez rebounded on Friday. The sophomore made 10 of 12 from the floor, including five of her six shots from three-point range to lead the Bulldogs to a 79-65 win over L.A. Pierce in the consolation bracket of the Cuesta Invitational.

The Pioneer Valley High graduate led the Bulldogs with a season-high 29 points, including 15 in the first half. She added a career-high nine assists along with three steals and three rebounds.

Hancock shot 61.5 percent from the field and went seven for eight from three-point range. The Bulldogs also made 75 percent of their 32 free throws.

Celina Calderon finished with 19 points, including a 10 for 12 mark from the free throw line. The Lompoc High School graduate made four of her six shots from the field, including her only shot from long range. She also dished out six assists. Freshman guard Marissa Torres added 12 points, while Nicole De La Guerra and Tashara Pruett added eight points apiece. Freshman Michaila Miller led the Bulldogs with six rebounds and De La Guerra pulled down five boards.

The Bulldogs carried a 39-20 lead into halftime and went on to win by 14 points. Calderon scored 12 of her 19 points in the final 20 minutes, seven of which came from the free throw line.

Hancock improves to 3-5 overall, while the Brahmas dropped to 2-7. The Bulldogs advance to Saturday's consolation championship game on Saturday at 12 p.m. at Cuesta College. They'll play the winner of Friday's game between College of the Desert (1-8) and Victory Valley College (1-6).
