Women's Basketball Splits Weekend Action at Comet Crossover

SAN MARCOS, Calif. - The Allan Hancock College women's basketball program split a pair of games at the Comet Crossover, hosted on the Palomar College campus, over the weekend. 

The Bulldogs will return to action with a road trip to Reedley College on Tuesday, November 23rd. 


GAME ONE - PALOMAR def. ALLAN HANCOCK, 86-76 - BOX SCORE

Teams traded baskets through the opening frame, ending the first quarter tied at 19 apiece before the Comets broke away to build a nine-point lead by the intermission. Hancock opened the second half with a 9-2 run, but ended the quarter still trailing by four. The offense heated up for both teams in the final frame as the two sides combined for 54 points down the stretch. Alijah Paquet led the offensive effort for the Bulldogs in the fourth with a 12-point showing after hitting three shots from distance and making three freethrows. 

Both teams finished the contest shooting 40 percent from the field, but the Comets held a 37-26 advantage on the boards at the end of the night. Jayci Bayne led the Bulldogs in scoring with 28 points, followed by 21 tallies from Aliah Paquet. 


GAME TWO - ALLAN HANCOCK def. MT. SAN JACINTO, 60-57 - BOX SCORE

Hancock jumped out to a 16-9 lead in the first quarter but only led by one possession at the intermission after an offensive sputter in the second frame. Teams traded baskets through the second half of play, but Mt. San Jacinto gained momentum in the final quarter and led by seven points with less than five minutes remaining. Hancock chipped away at the lead 9-2 run down the stretch, knotting the score at 57-57 with 92 seconds remaining. Both teams were scoreless until Bayne lifted the Bulldogs to victory by hitting the go-ahead three-pointer with less than four seconds remaining on the clock. 

Bayne led a trio of Bulldogs that finished in double figures after pouring in 19 points, followed by 16 from Kayla Taylor and 14 from Jewelia Maniss. Taylor also finished with a team-high of 12 rebounds, marking her fourth double-double of the season.
