Bulldogs Fall Short in Upset Bid Versus Moorpark

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - The Allan Hancock College women's basketball program fell short in a near-upset against Moorpark College at home on Monday evening. | BOX SCORE

The Bulldogs (14-11, 6-4 WSC) got off to a hot start after opening the game with a 12-5 run, but a back-and-forth battle down the stretch led to a two-point deficit at the intermission for AHC. The Raiders (20-3, 9-1 WSC) built on their lead with a 22-16 showing en route to a nine-point cushion after the third frame. Hancock answered by rattling off a 10-0 streak through the first five minutes of the fourth quarter, cutting the deficit to just one, before Moorpark responded with their own 5-0 stint to stretch the difference. The visitors were able to put the game away from the charity stripe after AHC was forced to stop the clock by fouling.

Coach Nerelli's squad finished the night with a 40 percent mark from the floor but continued to struggle from long range after a 2-for-18 performance. The Raiders held a slim 35-31 advantage on the boards, but the home team was more efficient inside after outscoring MC at a 28-16 margin in the paint.

Four members of the home squad closed the contest with double-figure finishes, led by a 16 point showing from Jayci Bayne and 15 points effort by Kayla Taylor. Carlissa Solorio registered her fifth double-double of the season after a notching 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Alexandria Paquet added 13 points off of the bench.

The Bulldogs are scheduled to resume league action on Friday, February 18th, at home against LA Pierce for Sophomore Night. Tip-off is set for 7 PM inside of the Joe White Memorial Gymnasium.
