Bayne Reaches Career Milestone in Women's Basketball Win

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - The Allan Hancock College women's basketball team snuffed out an early comeback attempt by the Oxnard College program in an effort to keep their season alive after securing a 97-59 victory in the regular season finale. | BOX SCORE

The Bulldogs have ended the regular season with a 16-11 overall record while posting an 8-4 mark against league foes, placing them third overall in the final conference standings. Sophomore Jayci Bayne reached a career milestone by joining the 1,000 point club after a career-high performance of 43 points. She also finished just three points shy of the program's single-game scoring record of 45 points, which was set by Maxine Velasquez in the 1989-90 season and tied by Tania Brenton during the 1991-92 campaign.

As a team, Hancock posted a solid 50.7 percent showing from the field while sinking 13 attempts from distance. Coach Nerelli's squad also narrowly outrebounded the Condors (8-15, 2-10 WSC) at a 37-34 margin while recording 36 points in the paint.

Bayne finished the evening with a red-hot 50 percent shooting effort from the floor, which included hitting eight three-pointers, and was a perfect 5-for-5 from the charity stripe. She was also just shy of securing her second triple-double of the season after dishing out 11 assists and grabbing nine rebounds. Alexandria Paquet poured in 21 points and dished out five assists while Carlissa Solorio put together a 12 point, 10 rebound double-double performance. Kayla Taylor rounded on the top scorers with 11 points while also registering seven rebounds, five assists, four steals, and three blocks.

The Bulldogs will now wait until the bracket is revealed for the 2022 CCCAA Women's Basketball Championship to determine if their 2021-22 campaign has truly ended. The seeding meeting is scheduled to take place on Sunday, February 27th, to set the playoff field with the official announcement to follow that evening or the next day.
