No. 18 Women's Basketball Defeats No. 15 AVC, Advances to Second Round

LANCASTER, Calif. - The No. 18-seeded Allan Hancock College women's basketball team upset No. 15 Antelope Valley College in round one of the 2024 Southern California Regional Tournament on Wednesday evening in Lancaster. | BOX SCORE

The Bulldogs (17-12) led from start to finish in the postseason opener after kicking the game off with a 7-0 scoring surge. The first quarter came to a close with a 27-13 advantage and remained with an eight-point difference in favor of AHC at the intermission after both teams scored 12 in the second. Play resumed with another monstrous quarter for the visitors, who outscored the Marauders (17-12) 13 in the third. Antelope Valley won the fourth quarter but lost the game in a 75-63 decision. 

As a team, Hancock finished the game with a 42.4 shooting percentage while limiting AVC to 33.8 percent. Coach Smith's squad also outrebounded the hosts, 42-36, and converted 19 Antelope Valley turnovers for as many points on the other end. 

Mallory Branum led the way with 18 points after going 6-for-13 from the floor and making four shots at the charity stripe. Khaelii Robertson-Mack (16 points/15 rebounds) and India Dowling-Green (14 points/11 rebounds) both posted double-double performance and snagged six steals apiece. Giselle Calderon rounded out the double figure finishers with 14 points.

The Bulldogs have advanced to the second round and will now face No. 2 Moorpark College on Saturday, March 2nd, at 7 PM in Moorpark. To view the full bracket, please click here.
